Spring Concert
The Spring Concert involves one- two performances on one weekend in June at the Sorenson Theater on the campus of Babson College in Wellesley. The first part of the Spring Concert showcases students’ class work in ballet, modern, and jazz demonstrations. All main division students in good standing (regular attendance and tuition paid in full) are eligible to be in the demonstration without an audition, after submitting permission slips. Pre-beginners are eligible to perform a guided improvisation. For the performance, female ballet students wear regular class leotard and tights, plus a matching 12� skirt and bun wreath for ballet. Male ballet students wear regular class attire and a cummerbund from the DAC wardrobe. Modern and jazz students wear class attire with long hair in a braided ponytail, unless otherwise indicated by the teacher.
The next portion of the concert features performances from the touring and studio Ensembles. Beginning in mid-May, class schedules are altered to allow entire dance departments (ballet, modern, and jazz) to rehearse as groups once a week for 3 weeks. These rehearsals are required for participation in the concert demonstrations, so be sure to check school calendars to avoid conflicts with band/chorus concerts, graduations, and other events.
Additional technical, blocking, and dress rehearsals will also be scheduled in the weeks leading up to the concert. Students and parents need to be flexible regarding last-minute rehearsal changes or additions that enable the high-quality performances expected at DAC.
