Dancing Arts Center to Present Coppélia at Ashland High School

Dancing Arts Center is proud to bring top-notch dance to our local community with a full-scale presentation of the ballet Coppélia! For one matinée performance only, the production will take place at 4 p.m. on June 12, 2022 at Ashland High School in Ashland, Massachusetts.

Coppélia is a fun and family-friendly ballet filled with humor, bright costumes, and lively dancing. Set to the well-known and beautiful score by Léo Delibes, the story centers around the feisty Swanilda, her mischievous fiancé Franz, and their adventures with the nutty Dr. Coppelius and his workshop of life-like dolls. With traditional choreography adapted and staged by directors Gregg Saulnier and Patrick Notaro, preparations for the production are well underway at Dancing Arts Center’s Holliston studios. Students aged 6 and up are learning the sprightly mazurka, the antics of Swanilda’s friends, the lovely Waltz of the Hours, and four solos of Dawn, Prayer, Work, and Folly. Featuring Holliston natives Gabrielle Schmid, 16, as Swanilda and Cincinnati Ballet trainee and Dancing Arts Center alumnus Trevor PinterParsons, 19, as Franz with Mr. Saulnier as Dr. Coppelius, Coppélia at Ashland High School will enhance the local arts community and bring joy to every member of the audience.

“We are thrilled with the opportunity to showcase our students’ talents and hard work at this venue, so close to their homes, friends, and families,” said Mr. Saulnier. “While it’s an adventure to travel to Boston or New York to see great ballet, a local production like this brings the experience of live dance performance to a wider audience.”
